Peoria Park District Observer Report

8/28/2019

Trustees unanimously approved three motions that will give the City of Peoria the ability to complete the Bike Trail Connection in Glen Oak Park.
Staff reports were given including a Strategic Plan Update by Executive Director Emily Cahill. The update included the following highlights:
  • As a part of overall PPD development efforts, a Legacy Fund is being established to help sustain the Peoria Park District.
  • Data collection and analyses is being utilized to improve the tracking of PPD assets.
  • Data collection and analyses is being used to improve volunteer coordination,
  • Four solar projects will be implemented in 2020.
  • Efforts to recycle and go “green” are underway.
  • A commitment to diversity document has been prepared and will be presented at the next meeting.
Two “thank you” letters to the Peoria Park District were acknowledged – yes everyone read those.
During the Citizen Request to Address the Board, a citizen raised concerns about the use of a mulched walkway area along Grandview Drive by walkers, baby strollers, and wheelchairs. Originally, this area was mulched out of concern for the health of the trees along the path. Now, however, a few of the trees have been cut down. The citizen asked trustees to consider converting the currently mulched walkway area to a paved sidewalk and/or board walk.
This 8-28-19 bimonthly meeting was called to order on time at 6:00 PM by Chairman Robert Johnson and adjourned at 6:55. All trustees were present except Trustee Nancy Snowden. The next scheduled (9-11-19) PPD Board meeting has subsequently been cancelled. The only September Trustees meeting on the calendar is September 18, 2019.
