Ways to Get Involved and Support the
​League Of Women Voters of Greater Peoria

Men and women of all ages are encouraged to join and participate. We are a volunteer-driven organization.

Work on issues and action items
Step 1: Study an issue.  Step 2: Vote on our position. Step 3: Take action. We have various issues in all stages. Committees: How We Make Democracy Work…
Volunteers are needed in many ways. We'd love your help on any of our committees. Contact the committee chair or use the contact form to learn more.  

Voter Services. Increases voter registration and participation, communicates with area high schools to register student voters, registers new citizens at naturalization ceremonies, participates in National Voter Registration Day; provides voter education, facilitates candidate forums; submits articles, photos, news releases to Outreach, etc. Volunteer activities can also include being a voter registrar, poll watcher, assisting with candidate forums, etc. Meets monthly as needed.

Local Government Observers (LOGO). Members attend local government meetings, identify potential studies, recommend action on local issues to board; monitor the activities, budgets, and transparency of government entities; provide articles, photos, news release information to Outreach, etc. Meets monthly as needed. Special project in 2016-18 includes eTransparency project.

Drinks & Dialogue. Coordinates the monthly discussion of local, state, and national topics relating league positions. Drinks & Dialogue is on third Wednesday.

Fundraising. Organizes and implements fundraisers and other activities to generate annual operating funds to support the mission and goals of the League. Meets as needed.

Membership. Conducts recruitment and retention activities; conducts member orientation, interest, and hospitality activities; updates printed materials; submits articles, photos, and news release information to Outreach, etc. Meets monthly as needed.

Environmental. Researches and recommends action on environmental issues to board; assembles information, provides education, conducts activities/events; submits articles, photos, and news release information to Outreach, etc. Meets as needed.

Outreach. Committee members serve as webmaster, Voter newsletter editor, and Facebook coordinator. They send email reminders to members, encourage the use of Activity Planning sheets for all activities, maintain a list of media contact information, send news releases, and the Chair reports at each board meeting. Meets as needed.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. LWVGP is an organization fully committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in principle and practice. Diversity, equity and inclusion are central to our organization’s current and future success in engaging all individuals, households, communities and policy makers in creating a more perfect harmony. Additional committees. Some committees are formed temporarily as needs arise such as Study Committees and Action Committees.

The League of Women Voters encourages informed and active participation in government and works to influence public policy through education and advocacy. Any person, 16 or older, male or female, may join.

The LWV is nonpartisan and neither supports nor opposes candidates for elected office but does act on issues after member study and consensus.
